This quote embodies the notion of confusion. Pozzo firstly speaks about not speaking positively about the generation, then not speaking negatively and then not speaking of it at all. Finally, he points to a random comment which seemingly has no relevance to the prior topics - "the population has increased". This effectively show's his confused state of mind. This is also a recurring theme, as it is discussed throughout the play. Per example, Estragon and Vladimir are thoroughly confused about the story of the two thieves and the multiple interepretations that follow them.
In the song, the author is so affectionate and passionate towards an individual such that he questions moral values, as he questions “What is right and what is wrong”. This effectively enforces his confused state of mind. The impact is also evident as he says “Oh, I don’t know what I can do”, showing his confused state of mind towards the topic of "Love".
In both the song What is Love and Waiting for Godot, the theme of confusion is common and serves as the motivation for characters to perform certain actions. It serves as an explanation for Pozzo's crazed state of mind, and justifies why the main character questions what love is and whether his significant other loves him back or not in the song.
"Let us not speak ill of our generation . . . let us not speak well of it either . . . let us not speak of it at all . . . it is true the population has increased"
