This quote depicts the theme of misguided aid. Vladimir thinks he is helping lucky by repeatedly telling Pozzo that if he's treating lucky so badly he should get rid of him(to set him free) or learn to value him. The scene takes a turn when Pozzo reveals his true intentions of selling Lucky at the fair. This causes distress to Lucky and ultimately makes him cry. This comparison can also be made to Horatio in Hamlet.

Throughout the whole play Horatio plays the role of the diehard friend that will do anything for Hamlet, but in reality Horatio most likely did more harm to Hamlet than help.  Alerting Hamlet of his father's ghost, led Hamlet to go mad with revenge. By helping Hamlet through all stages of his plan he accelerated Hamlet's own doom. (play scene)

In both of these scenarios neither characters had any true malice. In the previous page Vladimir was outraged with Lucky's treatment. Horatio is truly dedicated to Hamlet, in Act 5 scene 2. Horatio says that he would he would rather commit suicide than live without his friend Hamlet.

The theme of misguided aid works to show that even though people's best interests may be in heart, they can be misguided and end up hurting the person more than they wanted to.

Blinded generosity  is a theme portrayed in both waiting for godot and Oryx and Crake. Pozzo makes a comparison in selling Lucky that he deems to make him a good person. In similarity to Oryx and Crake, when Snowman makes the Crakers bring him fish once a week. The difference in these 2 situations is that Pozzo thinks he's being kind by not jump simply driving out Lucky, while Snowman is fully aware that he is manipulating the Crakers into giving him fish.

Blinded Generosity is an interesting theme because it is usually portrayed egotists and snark rich people(i.e Pozzo), but Margret Atwood placed Snowman in a situation where the people who are receiving the Generosity (Information about Oryx and Crake) do not think they are being cheated(i.e 97% profit on internet soilder)

Over Compensation is a theme shown in waiting for godot when lucky tries to impress Pozzo so that in turn he will not sell him at the fair. By keeping the bags of Pozzo held for an extended period of time he thinks that will make Pozzo see his usefuleness, while in reality it does nothing to show Pozzo how useful he is, in fact he ends up demeaning Lucky more as a result. In Hamlet a comparison to this could be made towards Rosencratz and Guildenstern. Both men work so hard to appease the king that they end up betraying Hamlet and ultimately seal their own death in the process of it.

This shows how over compensation works to hinder a person's effort more than help it. It makes the user seem weak and maniputalbe. This is theme is most commonly used to try and appeal to some sort of higher power (i.e Master to Slave, Soilders to Kings).

Condescension is also a recurring them, in waiting for godot Pozzo constantly  works to undermine whatever Lucky is trying to do. Whether it be from mockery or violence Pozzo seems to think of Lucky as less of a thing with feelings and more of an object which does not simply work anymore.

A similar comparison is in the play Hamlet, whereas Hamlet treats Polonius the same way. He doesn't see Polonius as someone who is a great deal in his life, even though he advises the king and is father to his ex-love Ophelia. He constantly mocks Polonius throughout the play as if it were just for fun, and then even when he kills him. He does not see it as a big issue, just another thing simply going away in his life.

Condescension is a key theme , it works to show how highly a person regards another character. Pozzo has utter and complete control over Lucky, so no matter what he is allowed to say anything and get away with it, Lucky for the most part does not care. He only cares about being sold. Polonius gets degraded by Hamlet, but in an indirect way. Hamlet acts crazy so Polonius cannot rationally argue anything Hamlet is saying back to him.

Anger is generalized term, so does not work well for a distinct theme, but a more specific word would be blinded anger. Lucky is so frustrated in being treated like an object and being sold, even though he tries his hardest to keep his job intact. So the anger he displays is not in any terms of strict aggression towards one person. When Estragon goes to wipe his tears, he lashes out. He does this to get some sort of feeling back, that he has the ability to fight back, even though he does not.

In the novel Oryx and Crake after Jimmy's mom leaves and takes his favourite pet killer, he also moves in to a sort of angry mood. He does not converse with people as much, and is seen to lash out at his father. Jimmy generalizes his anger to those around him, the difference in the 2 novels is that Jimmy's live is given more potential as he is open to more opportunities, but Lucky being an old slave is nearing the end of his life and has no choices left.

Generalized anger is dangerous because it gives no reason as to why the person is specifically targeting another. In novels and plays this theme works to cause confusion and chaos around characters in the story line, and makes it difficult to pinpoint and change.

Compassion is also show in waiting for godot as Estragon and Vladimir both show how they care for the fact that lucky is being mistreated to such a high extent. This is also comparable to a poem by  Britney Harsin

I see a sea of faces many I have never met

But yet I feel compassion for them
on outside look just like everybody else
but they aren't
they are broken.

They're broken for ..........

This poem works to highlight the issues pertaining to caring for each other person as a human being. It shows that even if you do not fully know someone that should not stop you from showing them a heart of mind and keeping their feelings just as sacred to yours.

Compassion is a key them because it works to critically analyze emotions of happiness between people. Compassion, similar on levels to sympathy and empathy allow us to feel how are fellow people behave and it is often stated that those who cannot feel these emotions remain emotionally detached and are unable to form bonds with other people successfully.

Dignity is reviewed in waiting for godot. In more specifics to the character of Lucky. Lucky is portrayed as a character without dignity because of his social status (slave). He is placed in this horrible and demeaning position in which he cannot argue or make any respeectable decisions for himself. In the novel Oryx and Crake it seems that Jimmy is also put in this position by Crake. Jimmy and Crake are both friends, but Crake always seems to manipulate Jimmy and place him on a lower place than himself (either intentionally or unintentionally).

The theme of Dignity works to establish a social class, those who have high dignity are those of influential word and large wealth. Dignity works to create this system in place.
